The work we do not take on

Prefabricated softwood stairs bought from a merchant and simply nailed into place: we cut and build every staircase ourselves in hardwood, so this is not work we do.

Because we work in timber, we do not pour concrete or lay brickwork, and we would rather say so than take on something outside our trade.

Rushed jobs where the stairs must be finished within a week: a hardwood staircase needs time in the workshop, so we decline work that cannot allow for it.

How much does a bespoke hardwood staircase cost?

The price depends on the size of the flight, the hardwood you choose and how much balustrade is needed, so we quote per staircase after a survey rather than giving a figure over the phone.

How long does it take from order to fitting?

Most staircases spend several weeks in the workshop before fitting, and the exact time depends on the timber you pick and our current workload. We give you a realistic date in the quote and keep to it.

Can you match the staircase to our existing woodwork?

Yes. We can match an existing handrail, newel or floor finish, and we will bring samples so you can see how the grain and colour sit next to what is already in the house.

Do you remove and dispose of the old staircase?

We do. Taking out the old flight and clearing it away is part of the job, and we make good the surrounding walls and floor once the new staircase is in place.

How much mess will the fitting make?

Fitting a staircase is dusty work, so we sheet up floors and doorways, keep tools tidied as we go and clear the site at the end of each day.

Can you work around a family living in the house?

Yes. We plan the fitting so there is always a safe way up and down, and we agree the working hours with you before we start on site.
